syllabus and assessment level 1: to be completed with the first 12
months of training.
Please be aware that the knowledge gained should be cumulative, with
each months progressions being added to and taught in the context of proceeding months lessons.
Be aware that these are a guide to the knowledge the student should be
able to demonstrate they have retained at the end of each period, and
should not be seen as dictation of the running of each lesson.

The core stances of the system studied.

Longsword, a cut into zufecthen followed by a step to striking distance placing an attack with that step.

Acting as the patient using a true
time defense and counter against a false time attack.
Months 5/6:
A practical understanding of at least one of the binds in said
system, and said sytems approach to the bind/ crossing of the weapon
(i.e. better to bind or better to void).
being able to show at least one default hand position in the bind (if appropriate).
Examples:
Longsword.
A bind wrath to wrath, showing the balance position with neutral energy.
Sword and buckler:
The falling under from first ward, against half shield, held in a neutral postion.
Thibault rapier:
the first subjection against alive energy against the posture of the
straight line.
Silver:
Primary and secondary intentions within true time actions.
The correct manner to proceed to the attack (contact) against said pressure.
Months 6-7:
From the default cross of weapons the recognition of differing
pressures, such as weak and strong, (differing weights according to said system).
An ability to attack from the bind against at least three pressures,
weak, strong and neutral (neutral and alive being the same), a gentle
but not redirecting force.
The correct approach of said style in countering a withdrawal from the bind/cross.
Silver
The four governors, specifically pressing in and flying out, when each is appropriate.
Months 8/9:
The introduction of grapples and weapon secures in said system.
Showing understanding of how the weapon arm is secured by direct or indirect pressure.
Understanding of how distance is used/recognized in the use of each grapple/secure.
Three grapples to be shown within each system.
Months 10-12
The gradual introduction of supervised freeplay.
Focussing on the principles set forward in the previous months, working towards pressured applications of the core techniques shown.
The freeplay will be “coached”, with examples given of situations where principles were ignored or adhered to, and explanations offered as to how this affected the outcome.
